Volcanic lakes

At about 170 meters, Lake Albano is the deepest of the Italian volcanic lakes and takes its name from Albalonga , mother of Rome, which is supposed to arise right on its shores; is also called Lake Castel Gandolfo because in its waters is reflected in the village that houses the summer residence of the Popes.

Lake Nemi is the smallest of the two castellan lakes, also called "Mirror of Diana" because along its shores stood the Sacred Wood and the Temple of Diana Nemorense, Goddess of the Woods. Surrounded by reeds and strawberry greenhouses, this small lake has enchanted poets and painters over the years
